MyAppraisal Boycott
Unions were not consulted over the introduction of MyAppraisal. The issues the unions have identified with the new system have wide implications for UCL staff, and their managers.
Instead of stretching goals, ‘SMART’ capability-type objectives are being substituted. Managers can potentially record ‘progress’ towards them. And data is shared beyond the department up to and including senior management, completely contrary to the UCL Appraisal Policy.
The danger is that in time the system will become a kind of permanent probation or capability management system as is the case in some private sector employers. This would radically change the culture in UCL for the worse.
On 10 April UCU members voted for motion MyAppraisal is not fit-for-purpose: Revise and Resubmit to ask members to boycott the MyAppraisal system until these issues are resolved and to use the Word forms instead.
