Tribute to Russell Hitchings

Russell Hitchings was a much-loved member of the Bedford Way picket and of UCL Geography. An extremely popular teacher and mentor who was promoted to professor last year, his highly original and methodologically rigorous research covered questions of everyday life and sustainability.

On the picket Russell was known for his home-made cakes and his ability to persuade students not to cross the picket line; as our exam tutor he played a particularly important role during the marking and assessment boycott. Russell passed away on the 26th May.

We will miss him greatly, particularly his sense of humour, generosity, and kindness.

The Geography Department also have a memorial page here.
