General Meeting Tuesday 16th April 13:00 – 14:00 via zoom Motions and Amendments

We have a Branch Rules General Meeting on 16 April to discuss submitted motions and amendments to make changes to our branch Rules (see below).

The meeting details are below and the registration link has been emailed to members.

  • Tuesday 16th April, 13:00 – 14:30, ‘Rules’ General Meeting to Amend Branch Rules
  • Please note the meeting length is 1hr and 30mins to accommodate a large number of motions (13) plus amendments.

You can refer to our current Branch Rules and Standing Orders, to understand the proposed changes.

The submitted motions plus some proposed amendments for rule changes can be found here. They cover rules on Quorum size, Submission of Motions, EC Roles, EC Election Rules, and Delegate Behaviour at national meetings.

On the quorum size more specifically, we have provided this background information that sets out the national model rule on quorum (with which any changes must be consistent) and gives some comparative information from other large branches.

To pass a rule-change motion a ⅔ majority is needed in a quorate general meeting, by our Rule 23.

This may seem not a very exciting subject, but the rules of the Branch are what govern everything we do, and significant changes can affect the work of the branch in important ways. We strongly encourage all our members to attend and determine how the branch carries out its business.
