UCL Cleaners Strike over Redundancies Thursday / UCU Equalities Conferences

UCL Cleaners protest

In August, UCL’s subcontractor Sodexo announced plans to drastically cut cleaning services on campus and in halls of residence. Over 150 cleaners are set to lose their jobs and casuals will receive no redundancy pay.

After three days of strike action in September, cleaners in the IWGB union voted for further strike action this Thursday 23 October. We would urge UCU members to stand with our colleagues who will be at the Malet Street Gates of UCL (opposite Waterstones):

  1. Join the early morning picket line, 4:30 to 9am
  2. Join the lunchtime solidarity protest, 12:30pm

Many cleaners have already been laid off and others have had their applications for voluntary redundancy rejected. Meanwhile, the impact of service cuts is already being felt in student residences and on our campus. It is time to stand in solidarity with our outsourced colleagues.
