Extraordinary General Meeting: Wednesday 30th September, 1pm

This is a formal calling notice for an Extraordinary General Meeting of UCL UCU taking place online via zoom on Wednesday 30th September 2026 at 1pm. Members have been emailed a registration link.

This meeting has been called to enable members to submit motions to the Special Higher Education Sector Conference (SHESC) which will be taking place online on Wednesday 14th October, between 1.00-4.30pm. Each branch may submit up to two motions, which must first be passed at a quorate branch meeting.

The business of the SHESC is:

  • Opening the dispute and progressing the Secretary of State (SoS) Campaign.
  • Coordinating campaigning and industrial strategy with other education unions, including the National Education Union (NEU).
  • Developing a democratic process for electronic balloting for industrial action, both in the SoS Campaign and other disputes.

Depending on time the meeting is also able to hear motions on other local matters and inter-branch support.

Motions

If you would like to submit a motion to the SHESC, please note that the title must not be more than 10 words and the motion text must not be more than 150 words.

We will also accept branch motions of any length.

Deadlines

Proposals for motions should be received by the branch at ucu@ucl.ac.uk by 9am on Monday 28th September.  We will circulate them to members on the same day and invite amendments up until 12 noon on Tuesday 29th September.
