Management’s proposed “reforms” of Statute 18 disciplinary processes – Open Meeting, Thursday 20th March, 1pm, via zoom

UCL UCU is hosting an Open Meeting to discuss UCL Management’s proposals on Statute 18 and disciplinary “reform”.

This is a significant threat to the due process rights of

  1. Academic staff presently covered by the Statute
  2. Staff engaged in academic work (Teaching and Research) that the Academic Board has voted to develop proposals on bringing under the Statute and its full protections.

These rights defend academic freedom at UCL by placing significant safeguards on the use of career-ending disciplinary processes.

Please read our 10 Frequently Asked Questions about Statute 18  document on what these rights are, why they matter, and what we need to do to defend them.

In 2012, UCL UCU worked to defeat proposals to remove these rights, now senior management want another bite of the apple. They are bringing forward proposals that would restrict access to these rights in disciplinary cases only to those colleagues a secret panel says should have the rights. There is no justification for this restriction.

The meeting to discuss this, and the way forward will be held online via zoom on Thursday 20th March at 1pm.

Further details will follow, but in the meantime please register here to receive a joining link via email.
