Together Against the Far Right Demonstration this Saturday March 28th
This weekend will see the biggest demonstration in the UK against the far right in decades.
The Together Alliance march takes place on Saturday March 28th, UN Anti-Racism Day. We’ve marched before on this anniversary.
The demonstration in Central London will be followed by major “No Kings” demonstrations taking place across the USA the same day (5 hours later). Demonstrations are also planned in Germany, Italy and France.
The demonstration will assemble on Park Lane at midday on Saturday.
- History lies in the balance. The Caerphilly by-election and the Gorton and Denton by-election showed that the far right can be defeated at the ballot box. There is nothing inevitable about the rise of Mr Farage and his ilk.
- Anti-racism is a matter of basic solidarity within our sector too. For example, a quarter of all staff in HE were not born in the UK. A quarter of students are international. ‘They’ don’t need ‘us’ to protect them – this is about the society and country we are.
A very wide range of UK trade unions are supporting the Together Alliance, including UCU, UNISON and UNITE. Over 500 organisations and individuals have signed up as supporters https://www.togetheralliance.org.uk/supporters
On the day, trade unions are asking members to join the trade union bloc and march behind branch banners. We think this is particularly important because the demonstration will be extremely big!
UCU branches are meeting at 12 Noon by the Hilton Hotel, at Hyde Park Corner.
Let us build the biggest possible anti-racist demonstration together.
