WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF EASE? Open meeting: Tuesday 28th April 2026, 13.00-14.00
The EASE restructuring of education administration and support staff promised to improve the consistency and reliability of teaching support across UCL.
Professional services and academic staff alike were told that taking the opportunity to ‘standardise, standardise, standardise’ would reduce workloads, make our jobs easier and improve outcomes for students.
In some parts of UCL, EASE has been in place for more than a year. In other faculties, the restructuring has not yet begun.
How has EASE worked out in the faculties where it is now ‘operational’? Are staff enjoying better communication and collaboration, greater efficiencies and manageable workloads? Has institutional knowledge been retained, or lost through redundancies? Is collaboration between academic and professional services staff supported or undermined by the new organisational structures?
We are hosting a joint-union open meeting to examine the EASE restructuring on Tuesday 28th April, between 1-2pm. Please put this date in your diary, and register for a meeting link using the link that has been emailed to members.
Professional services and academic staff from different faculties will share their experiences following the implementation of EASE, and review a new ‘accountability framework’ that aims to govern EASE operations.
This meeting is open to union members from UCU, UNISON and UNITE, as well as non-members and students. Please share this invitation with your colleagues.
