Calling notice for Annual General Meeting – Thursday 25 June 13:00-14:30 – and nominations invited for Executive Committee

The hybrid AGM will take place on Thursday 25 June 2026 between 1.00-2.30pm, and later that afternoon, from 5pm, there will be a Branch Social. Full details have been emailed to members.

At the AGM, the new Executive Committee (EC) for 2026/27 will be elected, we need more volunteers so please read on if you are interested in standing!

As the largest branch of UCU we really need to expand the number of people gaining experience in making our union work. Further information on the positions available can be found here.  If you would like to discuss any of these roles, you can contact the Branch Secretary (Sean Wallis, s.wallis@ucl.ac.uk ) or the Branch President (Holly Smith, holly.smith@ucl.ac.uk), or any of the current branch officers or EC members.

This year we have had vacant positions on the EC, and a fraction of the potential 15 EC members, which makes it hard to respond to all the challenges we face. When members who do not have their own Dept Rep seek advice or support from the branch it is members of the EC who respond, and we have about 300 such requests a year. Therefore, we strongly encourage members of the branch to put themselves forward for officer positions or ordinary EC member positions if you would be willing to support members in this way.

To submit a nomination for any position, please complete and submit this simple form.  You need two UCU members to nominate you, and to confirm their nominations to the Returning Officer for this election, Francois Guesnet (f.guesnet@ucl.ac.uk).

The officer positions to be elected are:

  • President
  • Secretary
  • Vice-President
  • Treasurer
  • Membership/Recruitment Secretary
  • Case Work Secretary
  • Communications Officer
  • Equality Officer
  • Anti-Casualisation Officer
  • Health & Safety Officer
  • Environment Officer
  • Postgraduate Officer
  • Pensions Officer

In addition, there are up to 15 ordinary EC member places available.

The deadline for nominations to EC member and officer posts is 28 days before the AGM, which is Thursday 28th May 2026, by close of business (17:00 BST).

If any of the positions are contested, the Returning Officer will inform those nominated and an electronic election will be held according to the Branch Rule 10. If there are no contested positions and less than the maximum number of Ordinary EC members (non-officers) the AGM will simply be asked to confirm the nominations at the meeting.

If you have any concerns about election irregularities, please report these to the Returning Officer (Francois Guesnet, f.guesnet@ucl.ac.uk).

Further information can be found on this webpage.

Branch Social

After the AGM, from 5pm, please join us at the branch social.  Registration is not essential but it does help with catering numbers.
