#TakeTheKnee in solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter today, Tuesday 25 May, 2-2.30pm

UCL UCU and UNISON are jointly calling a short memorial protest today at 2pm, both online and, for those who can attend in person (at a social distance), in the UCL Quad.

The Trades Union Congress is calling for trade unions to organise protests.

While the British government denies the existence of institutionalised racism, the Covid-19 crisis has seen Black (or people racialised as ‘Black’) frontline workers and communities suffer disproportionately. At the same time Black communities still face disproportionate policing. Unlike in the US, not a single British police officer has been prosecuted in connection to deaths in custody.

This is why we continue to say #BlackLivesMatter.

We call on colleagues to participate in any way they can.

  • Join the protest at 2pm. If you are on campus, come to the Quad shortly before 2pm. If you are working elsewhere, join the online gathering (details below).
  • #TakeTheKnee. Take a photograph of yourself protesting and tweet it, post on Facebook, etc.
  • Join the TUC Twitter Storm at 6pm by tweeting/retweeting your images. Use the hashtags #TakeTheKnee #UKisNotInnocent.
